can you buy a used car warranty for cars over 10 years old?

I have a 2002 freelander with low miles and a 2 years warranty left on it but since it has low miles just wondering if I can buy a warranty when the car is older than 10 years.

Yes, you can however they’re a total ripoff. Obviously it’s a huge liability for these companies to warranty your car because most people need an engine or transmission or something expensive which is why they buy them. So you will probably pay more for the contract than you will for anything that goes wrong on the vehicle unless it’s an engine or transmission.

Yes – but the complaints against companies that offer "warranty" (really repair insurance) for older cars are extremely common. One of the most heavily advertised companies, US Fidelis, is the target of a class action suit. See the source: "The problem, according to the suit, is that U.S. Fidelis includes so many exceptions in its fine print that consumers are usually left out in the cold when their cars break down."

I’m sure there are some shister warranties out there that will take your money on a 10 yr. old car.
