Ford F-150 Optional Extended Warranty Yes or No?

I recently purchased a 2004 Ford F-150 from CarMax with just under 21K miles and have option to buy 3yr/30K ($1300) up to 5yr/50K ($1650) warranty

One mechanic I asked said yes, the other said not much goes wrong with them under 100K

What's your take? Thanks

    Buy the warranty. It's amazing how many cars & trucks come through my shop & we point out a problem (we point out issues we don't even fix) & they just are out of the manufacturer's warranty.
    Get it just for the 4wheel drive system itself (I assume it's 4wd). If not, still get it you won't be sorry. Especially cause you are buying a used vehicle & you don't know the REAL history on it.
    You'll be unhappy if you don't & 1 big problem erupts & you have to fork out $2,000 for a new Transmission.
    By the way: The dipsticks on those are "mis-calibrated" (very common problem with Ford for years).
    Oil & Filter Change: (The engine is full when dipstick reads in the middle of "reader", not @ top)
    4.6L=6.0qts. (owners manual says 6.5/wrong)
    5.4L=6.5qts. (owners manual says 7.0/wrong)

    Yes!! I own a 2005 F150 Supercab and have had a lot of trouble with the front end. Ford has done work on it twice and the second time they didn't want to put new tires on it. It has worn out 2 sets of tires in 32K. The first set went at 14K and Ford said there was a red flag on the waranty and replaced the tires and did the work for free. But when the second set of tires wore out they said the flag had been lifted and would not cover it. We were ready to take them to small claims court and they finally took care of the matter. Please be careful. The F150 has a lot of trouble with the front end. The price seems pretty steep, but I would shop around and see what I could find.

    You migth also check with your local Credit Union. If they offer a "mechanical breakdown" contract see if they offer a longer term. I wouldnt even bother with the 30k mile contract and the 50k is still minimal. A contract for upto 100k would be best.

    After looking at what they offered you that is pretty right on if the vehicle is outside of the factory warranty. If the vehicle still had a bit of factory warranty left on it you should be eligible for a higher term.
