Has anyone ever not extended a warranty on their computer and regretted it?

I have a year old Dell computer, and the time is coming up for an extended warranty. It’s like $130, but money is kind of tight right now. I need like 4 things fixed on my car and I have other bills. Is getting an extended warranty worth it? Will it help me in the long run, esp. if my computer breaks down?
It’s a desktop. It’s the Inspiron 531, actually.

no, its not worth it. these company’s make an extreme amount of money by selling you extended warranty’s, which a lot of times are actually worthless.

If it’s a laptop, maybe worth getting (but I would not do it) as they can be harder to fix than desktops, but if a desktop, I would not bother.

Unlikely to go wrong, I would not bother because I can fix the thing myself, but if you do not know anyone that knows computers, then you might have to take it to a store to be fixed, but even then, unlikely to go wrong and could cost less than the $130 anyway.

Yes I have regretted it, but it is a gamble and I still don’t do it. They offer it betting you won’t need it, that being the case, the odds are with them. In addition the cost of a new computer and the fact that you will probably want to replace this one before the warranty is up make a bad deal for you. You can get a new computer for less than $500, $130 for something you may never use is alot.

The extended warranty is like insurance, you pay for it on the chance you might need it.

For a normal desktop I don’t think it’s worth it, The individual devices are usually pretty cheap and easily replaced. That the whole thing gets wrecked is pretty much a rarity.

Some places like Circuit City – http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/categorySpecial.do?N=20014681+20017125&catOid=-17125 – offer different types, If you spend say $1,500 on a laptop and get the extended warranty you get a new computer even if it got ruined because you dropped it down a flight of stairs. If you don’t get the warranty and you drop it then you have to spend another $1,500.
