How do you mean scared you? If this person was in any way offensive or bullying, you should report him to the store manager.
Customers are offered a warranty. It is an option

Return the entire laptop, then go to Dell’s website and order it from them directly. You can customize it the way you like, and you’ll probably spend less money. At least the money spent on the warranty (which is useless, by the way) could be used to get a better system.

Best Buy is the last place I’d ever buy a laptop.

By the way, did they "optimize" it for you for an additional $40? Or tell you all they had were "optimized" models?

Check the terms and conditions with the warranty – you may have a right to cancel (this is certainly the case in the UK where anything bought over the phone has a two-week cooling off period).

If you are not covered by such a clause then I would suggest you phone customer support and complain. Scare tactics are not a good way to sell anything, and if they feel you need to buy warranty then that would suggest you shouldn’t buy the laptop in the first place!

The warranty is nice because I have a dell too, and with you clicking yes with a interinet connection they can remotely fix all software issues and broken drivers immeaditely. Prolly would be easier to order it directly from dell itself but most people don’t think that far. (its nice to not have to mail it in to be fixed)

I wouldn’t buy a laptop without extended warranty. Most of the laptops I’ve had, including all of the Windows based ones, have needed work doing under extended warranty.
