I need some advice on an extended warranty…?
->
In May of 2007 I mistakenly purchased a 2007 Ford Focus SE. I say mistakenly because the car has been a problem since I got it. The CD player didn’t work, the light in the gear shifter broke, the car has been repainted due to trash being in the clear coat, replaced the alternator, and it is currently in the shop getting a new racknpinion and a bearing replaced in the steering column.
Now, all this has been covered by the warranty, but, my car has nearly 27k miles on it…the bumper to bumper warranty is gone at 30k.
I fear that once the car hits 30001k miles, it is going to really fall apart!!
So, what is the best extended warranty I could purchase as far as price, coverage, and dependability? My car is financed through Ford Credit.
I would trade the car in, but I have only had it a year and a half and still owe more than what the car is worth. This should even out within a year.
Thanks Ty. : )
Now, I do have a PowerTrain warranty up to 60k miles…will this cover the most important parts?

Hey missy, i work at a Jeep dealership so to be honost with you, i know up here our "ad a care plus" is a pretty good extended warrenty. Thats what I have on my fully loaded 01 nissan pathfinder. It covers all basics such as power windows cd player, ac, and all that stuff, excluding some minor things. Im not sure exactly what ford has to offer but be careful because they make try to stick you for a like maximum care thing which would be like a couple hundred more and covers so many things in all reality will never break or you dont even have on the car! Email me if you need any help =P. It should be around 1200$ I know ours is lifetime, not sure fords deal but if you want to ask them what they offer over the phone, i can get the gritty details for you so oyur not getting screwed..which believe me many companies do. My jeep dealership is a employee owned business so we really just try to make friends, cause they alwasy come back. theres no dicking around lol
add- bowties, thats not true, they arent worthless, personally i will always buy a warrenty with my cars, its peace at mind and theres only loop holes if you dont know what to look for so how bout tell missy what to look for rather then shooting them down. if she didnt have a warrenty shge wouldve payed over 3k just for the paintjob on this car.
add- your welcome =] like i said im not sure what the exact name of the one they offer but ours is called a "ad a care plus".. you could probably get someting liek a 8 year 80 thousand mile warranty, just make sure it covers your DRIVE TRAIN so your car will always run, and like thins like ac, power windows, all that crap that usally goes. when you go to buy a warranty really do read over each thing that they cover, because some are more money and they make it sound so good but it covers stuff you may not even have on your car, so its truely over kill

to be honest my experience with extended warrantys is they are all worthless. before purchasing one make sure you read all of it most of them have so many loop holes in them that you might as well throw your money out the window because the warranty company is going to tell you that it is a maitenence item or wear part any way

Hello Missy
First Ford bumper to bumper warranty is 3 years 36k miles so you are good until 36 thousand miles, for and extended warranty you are better off going with a Ford warranty theirs is call Ford ESP, dealers also sell Easy Care warranty stick with either of these, the #1 problem I see in our service department is people with aftermarket warranties we will take some of them however most make the customer pay the service bill then send you back the money so you will be out of pocket for the repair until they send you a check (if they send you one) another common problem I see is they will not cover the full repair so you pay all this money for and extended service contract then find out the warranty company will only pay a % of the bill, take for example you go in for a repair the shop labor is 2.0 hours at $92.00 an hour some companies will only pay up to a certain amount of the labor rate, lets say they will only pay $65.00 an hour that means you are on the hook for $27.00 times 2 hours this could add up quick. The Ford ESP contract and the Easy Care contract are Ford authorized so when a repair is to be made in the Easy Care case the dealer calls them up and they will approve the amount of labor and the cost of the part and that’s what the dealer gets no other hidden charge, with the Ford ESP the repair can be made without calling in for an approval as long as it is under a certain limit I think it is $1,000 if it is over that then they call for an approval either way they are Ford authorized.
The only other thing I would suggest is do not get just a ESP base warranty go with the ESP premium that will cover almost all parts and give you a 5 day loaner car, I have been working on Fords for over 28 years and I buy an ESP contract on all my cars, even though I can fix them the parts prices on major repairs are way high this way I can fix the with a cheap deductable and get paid for fixing them
