Is an extended warranty necessary for 2000 Mercedes S500 83,000mil?
->
I am buying this 2000 S500 with 83k miles from a luxury car dealership that sells pre-owned luxury cars like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Jaguar, etc. and the car is clean inside out but family members are negatively/enviously saying to get a warranty on it. Would that be best?

Warranty on a 10 year old car would not be a Benz extended warranty plan but rather one offered by a 3rd party company.
In my opinion, you do have to be careful with some of those companies as some are fly-by-night type of operations. By that I mean they may be quick to take your money but very slow (if at all) to pay out any money for any type of warranty work. They may also have an extensive list of exclusions for warranty coverage and/or very high deductibles. Read the fine print very carefully if you do decide to proceed.

Yes, because Mercedes parts at a dealership is expensive when you take it in for service. It doesn’t matter if the car is 1 month or 10 years. As long as it is under 100,000 you will still encounter a lot of repairs from personal experiences.

You will have lots of maintenance issues with that car, but extended warranties will not cover them all. Read the fine print and get the best policy you can find, a good one is going to cost you over $1,000.

You may be able to buy an Extended Warranty for your S500, but it will be prohibitively expensive to buy from MBz. Most warranties have exclusions about what is covered or not covered by the warranty contract. Be very careful with these outside warranty companies. The dealers like to sell them because they are very profitable for the dealer. Most warranties will exclude coverage on anything that is likely to fail after passing the 50,000 mile bracket or 4 years of ownership, whichever occurs first. Other off-brand warranties specifically say that the car owner has to pay 50% of the warranty charges. No deal!
