I totally disagree with the first reply, and highly recommend an extended warranty for such products. (And in general, I hate extended warranties).
I have a Hitachi 50" Plasma which hit the skids right after the one year warranty expired. Some electrical surge blew out the main circuit board. The cost to repair without the warranty ? $650. My cost with the $130 three year warranty ? ZERO.

Its a total waste of money, if anything is going to go wrong it will happen in the first 12 months which you will be covered for.
IMO its a scam, just another ploy to extract as much money off the consumer as possible. I personally dont know anyone who buys extended warranty.
