Is it wise to buy an extended warranty for a used vehicle from the dealership?
->
I'm buying a 2006 hyundai santa fe with 54,000 km.
so the 5 year initial warranty is still up til 2011.
I'm a moderate driver. In my other car I put an average of 8,000 km/year.

YES. On American cars and Hyundais. Hondas and Toyotas? forget about the extended warranty if you service it properly.

Make sure you know exactly what the factory warranty covers and what the extended warranty will cover beyond the factory. If your not planning on keeping the car longer than the warranty, then no. If you are, wait till it's late in the year of 2010. And you don't have to go through the dealer either. There may be other carriers out there that are cheaper and better. I'd say forget the extended warranty for now and save for one later.
